Legendary Icelandic musician Bubbi Morthens turned 50 years old today, and will celebrate his birthday with a sold-out concert tonight in Laugardalshöll.

Morthens first arrived in the Icelandic music world as a part of punk rock acts such as Utangarðsmenn and Egó. After this period, he turned to a troubador style of playing, with many of his most celebrated songs narrating working class life.

Today, Morthens is an Icelandic Idol judge, a spokesperson for a car rental company, and has sold over five hundred of his songs to insurance company Sjóvá, yet still finds time to keep making albums. His concert tonight is a retrospective of his greatest hits, which have in many ways influenced the shape modern Icelandic music has taken today.
