An international friendship run began its Icelandic leg yesterday. The run, which began in Portugal 2 March, will have relay runners carry a torch across a hundred countries, and a million people are expected to take part. Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde handed off the first torch yesterday at the Höfði in Reykjavík. The torch will be carried for the next 18 days over 1508 kilometres of Iceland.
