Mikhail Gorbatsjov in Háskólabíó

Mikhail Gorbatsjov will arrive in Iceland tomorrow. The Gorbatsjov visit to Iceland is one of the biggest events of the year. The reason for his visit is to celebrate the twenty year anniversary of the summit with Ronald Reagan, former US president at Höfði in Reykjavik in 1986. His visit during this occasion has gathered attention throughout the world and a number of foreign press will attend his public speech in Háskólabíó on Thursday, October 12th.

Gorbatsjov is a recipient of the Nobel Prize and was chosen the man of the eighties in TIME magazine. Gorbatsjov is considered to have played a big part in the fall of the iron curtain, the decay of communism and the end of the Cold War. In his speech Gorbatsjov will discuss governments in the 21st century, peace and the historical meaning of the Gorbatsjov - Reagan summit in Höfði twenty years ago.
