The East Iceland district court sentenced a man in his fifties yesterday to two years' probation for forgery. The accused was given a perscription by his dentist for Parkódín Forte, a pain killer that uses codeine. Instead of turning in the perscription for one box of medication, the accused erased the mark made next to the indication to fill the perscription once, and instead checked the box indicating that the perscription could be filled four times. The trick fooled no one, and while the man was originally sentenced to 30 days in jail, the court took into account that the man had no criminal record, and instead issued probation.
