Special police forces and viking squad members from Akureyri have been sent to the Kárahnjúkar dam area in the east highlands due to escalating protests. Protestor Ólafur Páll Gunnarsson has charged police with brutality claiming that they drove into him with their car, but police have refuted this stating that Gunnarsson's behaviour was violent and threatening and that he had thrown himself on the car hood, preventing it from continuing forward. Four foreign women were arrested yesterday when they were obstructing workers from continuing with their work. They were interrogated by Egilstadir police. 40- 50 protestors have set up camp at Kárahnjúkar and have not heeded police orders to leave the area.
