The bank holiday weekend, Verslunarmannahelgi, went well around the country. Eighteen thousand people made their way to the north of Iceland, where festivities concluded with spectacular fireworks last night. Weather in the Westman Islands put a slight damper on the weekend, but the wind and rain didn't prevent a record of nine thousand people in Herjólfsdalur valley on Sunday from attending.
Almost five thousand people went to the Neistaflug festival in east Iceland and another five thousand attended the alcohol-free Galtalækur festival whose highlights included a concert with girl-band Nylon.
